the magic of summer

Bridge of Scarlet Leaves

Summer magic:
sunshine, hula hoops, no homework, hot cars, boats on the lake, sunscreen, bike rides,
new freckles, Popsicles, poolside shrieks, backyard bar-b-ques...

All of it, a part of summer's magic.
But, the real magic of summer is time.
Time to travel, to take long walks in the twilight.
Time to take the kids to a drive in, time to catch fireflies.
Time for Slip 'n Slides and ocean breezes, for vacations and relaxation.

Time.

And, for me, uninterrupted time to read is the most precious gift.  Summer
is full of long days and quiet nights just perfect for curling up
with a book.  If you are looking for a great
summer read, you might try
Bridge of Scarlet Leaves.

It's a love story, set in an intriguing, difficult time in American history.  More
than a love story, it's a life story.  A story of triumph, dedication, family, forgiveness,
but most of all LOVE.

I will definitely seek out this book. Love a romance with history.

I find summer is definitely time to slow down and just step outside and enjoy the day. Now if summer would just come to my part of the world.

Sounds like you are having a good start to the summer, Relyn. I can't believe how LUSH it is here in NJ. With all the rain we've had, the woods are thick and filled with the scents of flowers and moss and earth...mmmm!

Thank you for the book recommendation. I'll have to look it up at the library. Currently, I'm listening to Jim Dale as he narrates The Night Circus, written by Erin Morgenstern. It's magical, visual!

Thank you for the good reading recommendation, Relyn! I love how summer seems to just natually unfold into more reading time. I have books lined up too. And I'll be doing some creative courses this summer too--very exciting days ahead. Enjoy your summer break. :o) ((HUGS))

You're so right about time in the summer, when one has children. I still work most of the summer (part-time) and it's not very warm here in Scotland, but still the long light nights and the relative lack of cold weather make everything stretch out a little bit.

Enjoy your summer, Relyn!

I DO love the summer months and a good book to curl up with. I'm reading Peony in Love by Lisa See. I'll put Bridge of Scarlet Leaves on my list, too. Happy summer!
