Here's a conversation I had about a year and a half ago with Sloane and her friend Lauren. They were both six at the time. I just reread it tonight and it tickled me. I thought you might get a kick out of it, too.
What is love?
"Love is God. God loves you." ~ LaurenHow do you know when someone loves you?
"Love is something that comes out of your heart that means you like someone. Like I love my cat." ~ Sloane
"When they smile and they kiss you. And sometimes they ask you to marry them." ~ SloaneHow do you show somebody you love them?
" They tell you that they love you." ~ Lauren
"We say that we love them and they feel good." ~ Lauren
"And we smile." ~ Sloane
What about you? How do you show somebody you love them?

Kids know all about love, don't they?! I love this conversation, Relyn! The obvious answer for me is that I cook and/or bake for them. When I suddenly realized that I'd only made pies for Thanksgiving, and both my nephews loathe pies, I got up extra early on Thursday to make cinnamon & butter roll-ups out of a leftover pie crust I'd made and chilled, but hadn't ended up using. I don't know a better way other than kisses and hugs, but at 10 they are almost to the "ew" stage for those, so I'll have to get in as many kisses and hugs as I can before they hit middle school and become too cool for that! xoxo
Children really do know how to get to the heart of it, don't they? I love this post, but I have to admit that I show my love by being with the one I love. I enjoy talking and sharing moments. Hugs and smiles. Laughing. I'm afraid that my husband, who definitely shows love by doing for others, would like me to take a few lessons from him!
". . . something that comes out of your heart . . . " I love that. :)
I hope I show someone I love them by letting them be themselves - I think I do. I give space, I give trust, I give time. I hold out my arms if they fall and try to catch them.
xoxo

I show love in so many ways...except with my cooking....and baking :)
There are many ways to show love, it doesn't have to just be in words. By the way, I love you!
This is SO beautiful to me Relyn...how precious is the perspective of a child ~ hugs and love, Dawn
don't you just love children's take on things, we tend to make things so complicated. How do I show love....ummm??
talking, taking time to be there, cooking, hugging, not judging, never saying I will do something and not doing it, what a let down that is.
My love language is quality time, if someone takes time to be with me, do something for me, think of me then hey I feel loved.
I show B love in so many ways. I know that if ever something were to happen he would never doubt how much I adore him.
This was a perfect post as I may steal a quote or two with your permission. It goes perfectly with the blog post I'll have up tomorrow.
Lovely post!
Hi Relyn,
"And we smile." If only it were that simple. And I hope I haven't been giving people the wrong impression!
Love is all you need
Fabulous
Beautiful young ladies with such wisdom

"We say we love them and they feel good" -- what is more simple and yet more beautiful than that?
Is it just inevitable that we loose this innocence and beauty...why is it so hard for adults to just live with this simple goodness!
Thank you for this!
my four year old niece thinks kisses are love
i have been away from my blog and am happy to return to these sweet young ladies with their wisdom beyond the years!
Sometimes I just hate it that we grow up and lose that innocence that kids have. What sweet words. I think the best thing you can do is keep that Golden Rule alive. If more people would remember it, this world would be a better place.

So cute! I love that picture! Thank you for sharing that little piece of my daughter....
these young ladies have the ticket on love. it's so refreshing to hear the voice of a child - such sweet innocence. a smile does the trick most of the time.
So refreshing.
Hmmmm .. Atlas hasn't asked me to marry him yet. I'll have to ask him if he really loves me. ;)
I tell 'em. All the time. It gets old. It never gets old.
So simple, and so sweet.
They've so got it right, don't they?
love
