I'm thinking a fragrant, lukewarm bath is in order. Summer pajamas. Then the books. I wish I could read by fireflies, like I did as a little girl one summer night when I was nine. I loved it. The fireflies did not, I think. I let them all go the next morning and not a one of them looked back and said, "Hey, thanks for the hospitality. Loved the holes you punched in the jar lid."I wish a lot, too. Don't you?
Also, I wish we could have fireflies in winter. Wouldn't THAT be pretty? Those little lanterns against the snow? Someone once said to me, "Boy. You sure wish for things a lot." And I said, "SO?????" I should have said, "I wish it wouldn't bother you so much."
~ Elizabeth Berg
I wish...
** I wish to travel back in time to that perfect night when Jeffrey first held my hand. We were in a clearing in the middle of the woods and the sky was lit by a million stars. More than twenty years later, I still feel that same delighted fizz when we hold hands. Still, I'd like to live that night again.
** I wish for an old fashioned bathtub, the kind that keeps the water hot for hours and is deep enough to sit in and still soak to the chin.
** I wish air travel were as cheap and convenient and fun as road trips. That way I could visit far away friends and family much more often.
** I wish I had a first edition, autographed copy of To Kill a Mockingbird.
** I wish I had the good manners and generous spirit of Atticus Finch.
** I wish I could sing just once with an amazing singer. Just me and him and a piano. Nobody else around. Somebody like Frank, Willie, Bono, or Aaron.
** I wish I could start working on my doctoral degree. For free.
** I wish I could find season two of McLeod's Daughters for cheap.
** I wish Domino, Country Home, and Mary Englebreit's Home Companion would come back.
** I wish I could be sure that I actually did manage to teach all of my students to love reading.
** I wish parents would work a little harder to teach their children good manners.
** I wish it were still as much fun as it used to be to sneak reading in bed by candlelight.
** I wish sugar and chocolate were healthy and fiber was bad for you.
** I wish my kitchen were big enough to hold two adults at a time.
** I wish I could be funny when I write.
** I wish she would hurry up and write another book.
** I wish we could have fireflies in winter. And one snowfall each summer.
** I wish I could write one perfect fairy tale. For Sloane.
What about you? What are you wishing for?

This is a scathingly brilliant idea and I shall "borrow" it.
Well, I know that at least one of those wishes has already come true, because you ARE funny when you write.
Honey, I feel like so much of your list is exactly the list I would write. To Kill A Mockingbird is my all-time favorite book. In fact, my cats are named Scout and DIll, and Atticus Finch is my hero. Oh, and I sooo wish my love of reading were a highly contagious disease that every one of my students would catch. Right now, it's only catching a little, no matter how many cartwheels or backflips I do in class.
I won't be a comment hog, but I'm with you on many more of these wishes, and I have a bunch more of my own, now that I'm thinking about it, so maybe I'll just have to make a wish list over at my blog this week. Thanks, my dear, for the inspiration!! xoxo
I'm big on lots of wishing too! And I love E. Berg as well! :o) At the moment I have two very strong wishes that could use some magical fairy dusy... 1. that I can keep my little jewelry business going for one more year at least! 2. I'm so wishing I could see parents, my sister & her baby right now! But I live far from them and won't get to see them until closer to Christmas...so some balm for homesickness would be lovely about now. :o) Happy Weekend, Relyn ((HUGS))
Wonderful post! So many of your wishes are mine too...but the things I wish for the most is that my family stays healthy and happy and for the horribly bad family situation (involving my sister)that I am in the process of finding out about either goes away or resolves itself so I can move on in my life as at times it is all-consuming.
wishes are a good thing...
and wow...could any of us love e.berg anymore ?
she's just the best !!
and your wish list....sigh....it made me smile so much on this sunday morning and now I want to sit and make my own wish list :)
but I might wait till tonight and do it by the light of the moon :)
Hi Relyn,
Thanks for dropping in and leaving such kind comments. I'd love to be your travel and/or music guide, whenever.
One might say that you wish for a lot of things too! But what's wrong with that?! I popped over to Ms Berg's place. I don't think I could write so charmingly about dog poop!! But it is easy to see why so many people enjoy her work. It is indeed an art to make the ordinary, extraordinary. Oh, and I second your wish for parents to be a little more assiduous in teaching their children good manners! Have a lovely weekend.
i wishes all your wishes would come true. *smile*
i was taught to wish and to build foundations - which can be confusing at times. but...if i could have some wishes...
i wish everyone could feel really content for at least one day.
i wish i could smile more and worry less.
i wish i could have the money to renovate this house.
i wish i could travel to tuscany or provence.
i wish i could sit in a field of poppies and listen to the wind.
i wish i could feel the warmth of true love once again.
A great list of wishes...I share most of them especially a snowfall in summer...that would be awesome!
I wish all the people I love could live in one town!!!! Wouldn't that be fun!!! You could live next door and we could walk to the library!
Hi Relyn,
It is a beautiful post. Right now, I have made a few decisions, including a decision to volunteer at a tiny school in a slum area in Bangalore, which doesn't have story books, starting from end Sept-early Oct. I hope to bring some books over to them and bring some smiles to them. Yes, I shall go armed with enough chocolates whenever I volunteer there.
I'm wishing all the time, my friend. I wish that I saw husband more often; I wish we had the funds to buy/build our dream home; I wish that the funding we have applied for comes through so that husband can start his doctoral studies; I wish that things will go smoothly and according to plan for the conference I am organising for next month; I wish that I could lose ten pounds in the next four weeks; I wish that it wasn't so bloody hot in here; I wish that I had more self confidence; I wish that I could see less of the nagativity and be more positive...
oh, and you are most welcome to use the peacock collage idea :) enjoy!
Love Elizabeth's quote...and I share many of your wishes. (Not the one about Jeffrey, though.)
I wish to travel around the world and being financially free, doing the things I love!
What a beautiful way to start a Sunday. Your list made me smile, and think...who could ask for more. It also made me research, and this was the best I could find: http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/deepbargain/items/McLeod_s_Daughters___The_Complete_Second_Season
Thank you for your visit and comments.
Sue
lovely post.....certainly the best way to start a meandering Sunday....
peace

I love the Elizabeth Berg writing you shared!
I am soooo with you on the First Edition, autographed copy of "To Kill A Mockingbird." Either that or the chance to spend an hour with Harper Lee!
I also wish that losing weight was as easy as gaining it. *sigh*
Great post!! If you see a similar post on Easy Street, well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!!
I hope your wishes come true... :o) We should all keep wishing and praying and dreaming--just like children. Thanks for the Sunday morning reminder to do so!
Elle
You know I have to use this right? I so love your posts, because you inspire me and make me mindful of the little things.
"I wish I had the good manners and generous spirit of Atticus Finch."??? Hmmm. I think you do!
Love this post Relyn, wishes, well how much time do you have...actually to sing well at all would need to be before singing with someone for me he hehe! And a snow fall in summer here in Australia ooh yeah that would be wonderful. love your style.. thanks
I sooo wish all of those come true for you! I am going to go put the 13th Tale on hold at the library now. You have such great taste in books. And you are funny when you write and while doing other things too. See you tomorrow! Katie
Fireflies ARE magical and yes, I DO wish that we could have fireflies in winter! What a sight that would be.
And what are you talking about when you write, I wish I could be funny when I write?! You ARE funny when you write. You've had me laughing out loud with some of the things you've written, Relyn.
And you know, many of your wishes are entirely possible. Aside from singing with Frank, most of them are! And chocolate IS good for you - especially while soaking in a tub by candlelight - and with your sweetie!
May all your wishes come true. I am taking the one with sugar and fiber as my wish too. I wish we had fireflies in the summer even.
beautiful list my friend...my "list" is on my blog in black and white ...wishes of sorts ;) have a lovely week at school
I soooo miss Domino, I just bought their design book and its fantastic.
I have The Thirteenth Tale sitting beside my bed.
I read your wish as this
"I wish MY parents would work a little harder to teach their children good manners."
I was totally giggling thinking, what in the world, is she saying she has bad manners.
I wish I had more time in the day.
What lovely wishes!
I wish to have some great camera lenses, and a better camera.
I wish for a vacation someplace inspiring.
Have a great week!
I wish I could fly from one adventure to the next, never lose my footing, and at the end of it all there was a cloud to lay my head, a spot meant just for me so that nightmares could never find me.
(((hugs))),
love,
me
I loved reading about your wishes. Right now I wish that the next few months will be smooth sailing with happiness, smiles and laughter and a great new beginning to a new chapter.
I love this post! Right now I wish that I could make my kids' summer vacation last just a little longer and that we could go back to Hershey Park and re-do our vacation that was ruined by my horrible poison ivy.
Oh, Relyn, you are a wonderful writer and you are funny too. I have been away too long. Every time I visit you fill my heart and mind with so many wonderful things.
Thank you!
I wish all my wishes would come true...LOL
Is that too much? Nah...it's good...dream big, right?
Have a beautiful day!
What a great wish list! And I liked the Elizabeth Berg quote too. I actually don't wish for things - I feel quite contented and happy right now. Except that I do wish that I wouldn't feel quite so guilty at having what is basically a long holiday interspersed with little bits of work, kind of the opposite of what other people have. I did work hard for most of my life, so why do I feel guilty about reaping the benefits now? (PS Glad you like my new header. It was meant to invoke a sense of peace and calm and order to balance out the increasing chaos of my scattered mind ...)
To Kill a Mockingbird sits this moment on my kitchen counter.
I pulled it off the shelf last night, because I actually want Olivia to read it-she is completely enthralled with the movie, and has watched it (the old black and white one) numerous times.
I may reread it myself first now!
You do have excellent manners...exceptional. You could write that fairy tale, just start it and take your time. Start designing that perfect tale!
xoxo
Bonjour Relyn~ Lovely post. And love your 'wish list'. I've not read E. Berg's blog. Will have to look that up! Would love to read her daily or weekly notes. Me? I wish I could see shooting stars every night.
Happy last days of summer!
Kirsten
Hi Relyn,
I love your wish list-most inspiring. I hope they all come true. Glad you liked that website-I love it when places make an effort to be beautiful and stimulating as well as to sell stuff! Have a lovely week.
relyn, i am off to the library today and i am going to pick up the thirteenth tale. i want you to know how much i love being on your good reads list. i wish i had found it sooner.
I think my wish list is too long for a comment field! But I loved reading yours -- and I suspect that more than one or two or three will come true -- if they haven't already!
i love your wishes. i'm afraid if I got started on a wish list it would get much too long. But I'll put a couple of them out there.
i wish to find true love before i'm too old to enjoy it.
i wish air travel was cheap - because i want to go lots of places - top on the list Provence and Greece
i wish i could pick up and move my house to another location - less congested and live the simple life
i wish my basement was completely clean of clutter and old stuff so that I could have a suitable studio
that's enough.
may your wishes come true.
What a sweet post. I never really think about what I would wish for...maybe I should start! Thank you for sharing.
Good morning - I just had to stop by and leave you a note because you have the most wonderfully fabulous blog. I've loved reading your interesting posts, all very creative and great pictures too. What could be more perfect ? Thanks for sharing them all and best wishes...
I have an award for you on my site. Stop by when you have a chance to pick it up!
Wishes and dreams are the stuff of life, I think.
:)
Love Elizabeth Berg too!
I wish I could wish like that! Breathtaking...
I just bet you COULD write one perfect fairy tale for Sloane. Maybe two. :)
i adore the pure ordinariness of your list of wishes.. and goodness sakes i hadn't realized that i don't much allow myself to wish as somewhere along the path i came to believe wishing would make me unhappy.. now i can return to wishing. b.i think i used to be doing that a lot of the time when i was a child and getting in trouble for looking out the window at school. i wish that wishing will bring back my childhood imagination...
xo
i love TB's comment and very much agree ;)
hey pretty lady ~ i played along too and did an "i wish" post the other day. you so inspired me! xxxooo, anj
