The short story of a our busy week Last weekend we had company & no time to do regular weekend activities like laundry and grocery shopping. This put us behind all week. Jeffrey has a TOUGH Master's class, a big project, and a mid-term next Tuesday to study for. This is the final week of this quarter so we had tests and grade reports to add to the usual craziness of a teacher's life. On Wednesday we found out that the carpet installers can finally come and make up their previously canceled time. If they didn't come Wednesday, they couldn't come for a month. So, they did carpet on Wednesday. We had company coming on Thursday so we had to stay up most of the night putting our house back together. Then, company arrived on Thursday afternoon. We still hadn't had time to do laundry or grocery shopping.
The short story of our full and blessed week
Last weekend we got to spend the entire weekend with Grammy. Oh boy, did we have fun. Including setting up a blog for her. Then we had a chance to see just how much our students had learned this past quarter. In the middle of the week we were blessed enough to have new carpet through our entire house. It's gorgeous! My sweet mother knew we were in a time bind so she gave up her evening and came to help us put the house back together. Just a day later we had some of our best friends come visit from Oregon. Best of all, we still have the entire weekend to enjoy time with them. What could be better?
Yes, my life is busy. But, I prefer the word full. I believe that our words affect our attitudes. And, I believe our attitudes affect everything. What things are making your life full and blessed right now? I really do want to know what's going on with you.

I would agree that full is so much better than busy. Busy makes it sound like a chore and a bother. Full is a more positive way to say it was well worth it all.

Full...that is a great way to describe a busy life. I like using ABUNDANT! Abundant lends a sweeter and postive touch. Lately I notice the work busy tasting negative...hhhmmm... Your days sound very, very busy, Relyn--but that good busy :o) We're having some extra going on ourselves too as hubby & I are doing some painting & wallpapering on top of all else--LOL! Busy...but good, and looking good too. ;o) Happy Days, my friend ((HUGS))
For many years I had that "busy" life going on. One child or the other (or both) had a sporting event, a concert and always homework each night. Weekends were busy with kid events, household chores and so on. I also had a busy job and for a time I was finishing a degree in the midst of it.
We moved at the same time our youngest left for college. I had to leave my job behind as well as our friends and social life. Suddenly, the house didn't get messy, the meals became smaller, the laundry easy to manage, the phone quiet and the hours of the day quite long sometimes.
I've adjusted and now we travel more, I find creative outlets and I've learned to love having order in my house most of time. The point being that sometimes hectic and busy can overwhelm us, but when it stops...and it will for most of us...the quiet is more disturbing than the noise.
Of course we are cleaning carpets this weekend, had the grandkids for a while yesterday, have another trip planned in the next couple of weeks and my parents coming for 2 weeks the day after we get home. Loved your post.

I think my counselor would call this "reframing." If she didn't, she should -- it's such a perfect example of seeing the joy, not the dark; the warmth, not the cold; the beauty, not the mess. You're right -- we're all busy, and in that busy-ness, we're building warm times with friends, a lovely garden, sweet-smelling sheets, and beautiful memories. And this makes me smile.
I am very lucky that right now my husband is making some dinner and singing loudly in the kitchen while he does it!
I am lucky that I tried a new thing today.....Fuji apple with vanilla yogurt and cinnamon sprinkled on top!
We went to the library too!!!!

I have not had much time to myself to just be and get in touch with the quieter side of life; I have a minute now and I am so thankful for it. I can feel myself coming into focus.

i like that concept. my life is full, very full at the moment. But I would like to make more room in it for things I enjoy doing - especially time spent my family.
Yes, I really like 'full' as well. Right now I am study, study, studying for my final master's exam. It seems like this will consume my next few weeks...but in a month it will all be over!

What a wonderful way to look at it Relyn. The word busy can sometimes make you feel so tired. My life is full with classes, work, taking care of myself and loving on family and friends. It is wonderfully, blessedly full.
I agree- busy is a negative sounding word...I, too, much prefer abundant. Sometimes there might be too much abundance it's hard to fit it all in, but I feel it's a little more positive. Hope your week is wonderful!!! Please let me know how things are going in the classroom (as per my last email). I have had some major challenges myself as of late and it's been very difficult as well as "abundant"-lol!

I always say busy and never thought about it. But my life is so full... full of wedding plans, happy tears, slow dancing in the middle of the room, laughter and clapping. You can almost hear the sounds of dreams coming true in this home of ours.

What makes my life full-- the end of the nine weeks at school, ParentTeacher conferences, a weekend with the HS girlfriends, and my family. And now I'm appreciating the fullness!
Perfect! Busy sounds so impersonal compared to having a full weekend. I was once told that if we look for the bad, it will surely find us. So here's to looking for the good and living full lives!
