Date Night

We went to a movie tonight since Sloane was at a slumber party. Never mind which one, it was kind of a dud. We almost never get to see movies in the theater anymore. Wouldn't you know it? It has become inevitable that we pick a dud. Anyway...

The best part of the movie was the people-watching before the show began. Our favorite this time was the group of six teens directly in front of us. The canned pre-show music switched to YMCA and I found myself doing the motions along with the song. Kind of in my lap, but still doing them. I looked up and saw four of the six teenagers we'd been watching groovin' to YMCA. They were doing the motions, too. Only they were doing them big and high and proud. I just love teenagers! All that exuberance.

Stormtroopers like the YMCA, too. Image by JD Hancock.

Hi Relyn,

Be careful not to give your age away! Pity about the movie. Glad you still had fun.

I know what you mean. Sometimes when driving around downtown, we'll see something similar.....it's a great time of life (for the most part). Thanks for the mags. I already had 2 of them, but kept the home one. Gave the other 2 to Mandy and, of course, she was intrigued. I discovered the designer in an ad in British Country Living and sent off for catalogs. Colors and prints are very inspiring!!
Missed you Friday.....hope it was a good day and no one was ill.

Heeeheee...you say that now...but JUST wait Missy until Sloan becomes one and THEN I bet your tune will change a bit! LOL! Seriously- I agree- working with teens and living with one usually helps to keep me feeling young (er). Happy Weekending!

You are so taking care of yourself
date night is fabulous...even when the movie is a dud....Seems to be the norm...dud movies....

Yes, I would love seeing that exuberance also. I take swim aerobics two nights a week and every once in the while YMCA is on the soundtrack and we all start doing the motions in the pool. It is fun and makes us feel happy.

Don't you just love songs that cross all generations! We never go to the theater anymore. The ones in this town are so small and I really like being able to hit "pause" when I want to. Date night is a great idea. We didn't do it nearly enough when the kids were at home. Of course now, life is one big date!

Sometimes we have to let go and just be teenagers too. It is so uplifting to just be darn right silly from time to time.!

About ten years ago, we four walked the San Francisco Bay-to-Breakers race when our kids were around six and nine. Midway through the footrace, four gay men were acting out YMCA on a balcony in full regalia, complete with Indian headdress, police uniform, etc. I will not go into too much detail about the performance; let's just say the kids still talk about it.

Glad someone is so enthralled by them. Usually at the theater, I'm trying to find a nice way to ask them to stop texting while I get angrier. Have you seen "The Invention of Lying"? Might like it. Love the premise!

People watching is the best hobby ever! Just as long as you aren't the one that is being watched!!

How great that they were totally uninhibited and did the motions without feeling like geeks or uncool. Must have been some great kids!

Ah, you've got to groove to YMCA - it's an absolute must and I'm glad you did!

People watching is one of my favorite shows, heehee
