Accidental Collections

Isn't it funny how we're all drawn to particular things? The way we accrue an odd collection without ever realizing we've begun one? Some women I know have 17 different red lipsticks. Others have 52 pairs of shoes, half of them black. For me it's tote bags.

And calendars.

I have no idea why I love them so much. Something to do with marking - and savoring - the passage of time, I guess. It used to be that most Januarys would find me at the mall or Borders trying to decide between five or six wall calendars. I'd usually end up taking home two or three. Plus a desk calendar or two. Why not? I had waited until they were 50% off after all. Then last year I discovered Etsy calendars.

See what I mean? This year I'm not waiting for sales. I'm getting this one.

And this one.

And probably this one, too.

We have had a computer in our home almost from the first. Robert showed me how to make a calendar on it in 1981 and I have kept a calendar of things going on ever since. After I got my calendar program, I transfered the info over to it, but wish that I had kept the original one that I made, just because....

Etsy calendars? Oh no. I think I'm lucky that I never have time to explore Etsy the way I want to. Between writing my blogs, creating things to write about, taking the photos and reading all of my favorite bloggers...Etsy remains on the the "to do" list except for when someone sends me to a specific seller...as you just did!

As for the tote bags...love them and I have so many. My newest is from Thirty One Gifts http://www.thirtyonegifts.com/

I have several of their items and finally found a lady that will order them for me and I don't have to go to a "party" to get them. Check it out, if you want her name I'll send it to you.

Hi Relyn,

Seems like I was just over here! So long as you're not:
a) wishing your life away or
b) an excessively regimented person

I'll permit you this little obsession!

I wouldn't have thought of etsy for calendars. Next year I will have to check there, especially since I have an etsy shop. I have been looking at Barnes and Noble and last week bought one of Porches. It is hanging now above my desk with the birthdays for next year written on it - ready to go.

I have fun picking out a calendar for myself and each of my three children each year for Christmas. This current year's favorite is one I got for my youngest son that is an Old Farmer's Almanac calendar. It has some really cool practical stuff and some silly things, too!

Calendar collections would be fun, there are so many pretty themes and images out there to choose from and best of all, they help us to keep on track.

There's something about marking time so that it doesn't just feel like it all floated away, yes?

:-)

I love this idea and your selections! Calendars are just the best, it's a little gift to yourself each day, each month. It's a reminder to beautifully mark each day!

I am going to get me new calendars now!

These are gorgeous, I'd better not linger too long lest I
start having a yen for calendars too. Cameras are now piling up and taking over every room in the house!!
At least calendars lie flat.

I don't dare venture into Etsy..there's just not enough room on my walls for all the things I would want to buy!

I can't decide what feels more like a new year...September, when the new school year begins, or January, new calendar season!

i collected calendars, too...
every year
my husband would get me a
special one
for christmas,
plus i would pick up more
at the 50% off sales...
and i used to hang them all
up on one wall...
the same month,
just many different years...
but it totally messed with
my kid's heads....
heeheehhee...

I'm a calendar nut, too. But my favorite is one that our graphic designer makes me every year -- 12 pages (she finds the best vintage images) with the calendar under). I hope she never stops!

Good choices! I was just looking at some yesterday and telling myself that I didn't need another calendar. I have one for the house and one for school.... but that one's not particularly pretty or inspiring. So, maybe.....

Beautiful! I love calendars too and do the same thing with buying after the year starts for the pictures! Etsy calendars...guess I'll have to check them out! Anything Etsy tends to be wonderful!

Yeah, I shouldn't start checking etsy for anything else. ;) I was tempted to buy that first one, but it's no longer available. Probably a good thing ..

Oldies, but Goodies
