A Shift In Perspective

My friend Debi has me thinking about all the things I don't have. And about how grateful I am that I don't.

Thank God I don't have

* a house that takes hours to clean * false teeth * an unemployment check * clothes that I don't like or don't fit * shoes with heels that are too high * the Christmas blues * cars that use too much gas * a television * hospital bills * poor health * addictions * many regrets * more bills than income * false friends * doubts about my faith * crutches * a vacation home * lots of collectibles to dust * diapers to change * a gym membership * fake nails * birds, hamsters or fish in the house * a barn * Ugg boots * a fur coat * a chainsaw *

What about you?

i had to laugh at the uggs boots.

i'm glad i no longer have an unemployment check (but was grateful when i did have one), a philandering spouse, ungrateful children, expensive rent, an unreliable car...and probably more that I could list

All those things sound good to me NOT to have! We have the most wonderful gift of all time, Jesus!

Robin's answers made me laugh and so do yours. So glad to've inspired, although we must really give St. Teresa kudos for the thought.

I'm thrilled I don't have

a cheating husband like Tiger Woods * a handgun (those two would be dangerous in combination, wouldn't they?) * a desire to listen to Fox News. That's what comes to me in a flash.

You don't have a television? Really? I would be lost. I also would love to have Ugg boots, but I bought the cheap imitation copy instead:)

what ?
no uggs ?
I think maybe if you lived here in wisconsin you'd be wearing them :)
seriously, there is nothing warmer or uglier than a pair of uggs and I love mine...pancake feet and all !!!

I'm glad I don't have hamsters....anymore.....they were fun though for awhile !!..so were the guinea pigs :)

I'm glad I don't have an illness that makes me hurt or cry....

otherwise, I think that if I don't have something, I don't know if I'm glad I don't have it unless I try it and then say, "oh no...not for me"

gosh...did that make sense ?

I laughed at the uggs because I have them on... and they are hideous and I tell everyone not to ever buy them!

This is a great list. I see I'm not the only one that doesn't want Ugg boots! When I glanced back at the list after reading it, it was really funny because I saw "too much gas" at the beginning of a line! hahahaha!

Funny! I was just thinking about this the other day--thankful to "not have" as you've put it.

here's a few I have on my mind right now:

sick children * sick parents * to sit in any traffic (unless i choose to) * the desire to shop at the mall * tons of shoes * an abusive husband * to work outside my home * nothing to do

that's all for now.

Relyn,

Love this take on things to be thankful for, recovering at home instead of in a hospital, staying at home instead of working, are just a few I am eternally grateful for.

Oh my well as a true blue Aussie where the good ole' Ugg boots were invented, I have to be faithful and say everyone should have uggs, ugly or not. Ha ha!! But I'm with you on the not wanting a petrol guzzling car, hospital bill, poor health and a gym membership. But bring on the stilletos, the vacation home somewhere cold and frosty and I love acrylic nails. Hey that's what makes the world go round, our differences.

Hi Relyn,

Fortunately, I manage to get along without most of the things on your list too! I'm really glad about the high heels!!

from the things you don't have I would say you are very blessed indeed, even blessed to not have the need or desire for ugg boots

I'm glad I don't have false teeth.....but I think a chainsaw can come in handy....escpecially during the aftermath of ice storms and zombie attacks!

Miss you dear friend

Oh I hope I never have to deal with false teeth! I swear I will keep flossing, every single day if it means I won't have false teeth.

Wow...a list like this really makes you grateful for the things that you DO have that you might have taken for granted!

I love this list of undesirables.

I'm with you on the Ugg Boots...don't like 'me, don't want 'em...And they wouldn't last one winter season here in Norway...LOL! I'm glad I don't have tons of meaningless stuff cluttering my house. Glad I don't have bad health. Happy not to have a cranky boss to deal with--me my own boss. Very glad it's no snowing...yet... LOL! Love this post, Relyn! Happy Weekend, my friend :o) ((HUGS))

Ugg boots! What do you keep your feet warm in. BTW I don't have them either. I hadn't quite thought of thanking God for what I don't have. A very good idea. I am glad I don't have to clean my house often, my husband does it. Smile!

I love this list, definitely glad I don't have false teeth.
hmmm and more dollars than sense, an enormous house to clean, any essays to write or assignments to hand in.

I'm thankful I don't have homework, or tests to study for, a cold, excess stuff, and a complicated life. Have a wonderful weekend!

oh no! i have a pair of generic uggs that i picked up at ross the night before my flight out of tx because all i had were flip flops! lol- i used to be on your team.
i never, ever, considered getting anything like them but that was all they had- and i have to admit, they are my favorites now because they are so warm-they are soooooo warm.
anyway, i love your list- i think of what to put on mine!

Hi, I stopped over here from "Stop Her She's Knitting". Would all of you ship your unused Uggs to me. LOL. I love mine and wear them mostly around the house. But I am thankful that I do NOT have the measles, small pox, swine flu or a host of other ailments. And I am grateful I do not live 120 years ago when my great-grandparents lived in a prairie dugout in Nebraska. My, that must have been difficult!

I am glad I don't have so much money that I forget about my beautiful family at home or hungry, needy people in the world. I am grateful that I do not go hungry. I am also grateful that I have no tattoos or facial piercings. I am also grateful to not have any kids in jail or children's tombstones to visit.
