This Morning

call at 5:02 a.m.
Snow Day!!

slept until a sweet kiss woke me
Momma, breakfast is almost ready

Mozart on the iPod
fire crackling nearby
husband smiling and coming to kiss me

he's made my favorite breakfast:
pancakes and lil' smokies
our time is full of quiet talk, family talk

doing the dishes, working together companionably
chatting about whether or not the digital age
has lessened the need for compromise
kitchen full of sunshine

sitting in a cozy chair by the fire
writing my morning pages
a renewed habit I'm enjoying immensely

we've made big plans for the day:
Bananagrams, reading in front of the fire,
writing some letters, maybe a movie

sigh
thank God for home, family, comfort, and
snow days

I took the picture above on my drive home Tuesday night. L'Heure Bleue, my favorite time of day.

It seems you've had a wonderful day tody! Thank you so much for participating my little give away, and yes, it's my house you've seen on the picture. It's a house in the style of the houses in Bruges, we live only 15 minutes away from this lovely town... We fell in love the first second we entered the house, it was build in 1906 by the mayor of our little village.
Greetings, Annelies

Simply glorious. I revel in your joy in abstentia! I think we'll have enough snow for a snow-day, but alas, they don't close up the U for much of anything!

Your post is much like the intro to "the perfect novel"...Happy Snow Day.

Our family always plays board games when we are together - I'll be checking out bannanagrams - sounds much like scrabble.

Enjoy the day.

Hooray for snow days... and favorite breakfasts being cooked while we're still in bed!

They've cancelled our after-school activities because of the "possibility" of inclement weather. I can dream, still, can't I?

wishing for a snow day but they say the storm will dissipate before it gets here...bummer!

I know what you mean. We got off early today because of snow. Getting home when it's still light outside is a treat!
Enjoy your snow day!

The movie was wonderful - hope you watched it. I went to see "The Young Victoria" yesterday and was enthralled. The love story was great. The costumes were amazing.

Snow days are the very best! And morning pages, I haven't done that for a long time. Maybe it is about time to do that again.

beautiful in every way. there is just something about snow days - unlike any other day, vacation, weekend, whatever - not the same as waking to snow and an unexpected day with the ones you love in the warmth of home.
i'm keeping my fingers crossed for one tomorrow. it's snowing now. : )

That sounds like a perfect day! I was hoping for one of those 5:00am calls today, but no such luck. It's snowing and the buses came and my kids are off to school. Sigh.

This post made me smile so much! I have been hoping for a snow day all week but it is just not that bad in London. On Thursday though, at 7.30(your school are good ringing so early) a call came, a voice mail, the school is...open, take care on icy roads and pavements!' I am glad you got your snow day at least, it sounds fabulous!

Oh I am craving snow! It is so incredibly mild here right now (although, blowing like a hurricane!)...I am starting to wonder if we are going to see any of the white stuff this year.
Kind of makes me glad we traveled inland this Christmas, just so I could get a small fix!
