Rocket Day

Week 6 of Wednesday lists
Is it just me, or did anyone else notice that yesterday's date was 3.2.10? BLAST OFF!!! I called it Rocket Day and my class celebrated blasting off toward our goals. I use goal setting extensively in my classroom, and this was a fun way to reinforce those lessons. Don't you just love super-silly celebrations like that? In honor of Rocket Day, I offer a list
to help us all blast off toward our own goals.

3 things to get you started when you set a goal
  • Dream Big - Dream as big as you're willing to work.
  • Tell Somebody - Make it public and you're ten times as likely to achieve it.
  • Break it Down - Immediately break your big goal into smaller, more doable pieces, and set a deadline for the first step.
2 things to keep you going
  • Reward Yourself - Small achievements deserve big recognition, and maybe a small treat or two.
  • Reevaluate Your Goals - Now that you've gotten started, is this still really what you want to do? If yes, great! If no, feel free to change it. It's your goal after all.
1 thing to remember
  • You can do it!
0... Blast Off!!

Happy Rocketing, friends.

What a terrific motivational list. I have a few things I'm working on that are slightly overwhelming. I'll take this list to heart and get to work!

My Wednesday list this week is slightly silly, and a little bit gross. Oh well. It's good for a laugh.

I think this is a great post, and fun, I was just on the computer looking at setting goals, I should have just come here. Take care,

I wrote the date a gazillion times yesterday, but never noticed that! You are so right about those tips. This post is going next to a few others of yours in my book of inspiration!

Hi Relyn,

I could do with setting myself a BIG goal - making my modest emporium into a world beating colossus! I'll start now. Thanks for the date stimulation!

What a terrific list! I'm one of those people who needs lists. I like to write down everything that is important to me. Makes it all more real, more viable, easier to focus on and achieve. :)

Hee. It took me a minute. I kept saying three...two...ten. This brain doesn't do numbers!

See? The problem with computers (well, one of the problems) is that I seldom write the date. How cool that you noticed! I love that!

And a PS for your list - you are worth it, you deserve it! I have to constantly remind myself of that little tidbit, and without it, the rest is easy for me to toss.

:) Love ya!

A very good list. I love Rocket Day. I think you must be a very inspirational teacher, one I wish there had been more of when my children were in school.

Haha. That's a good one. I didn't notice until you mentioned it. I agree with all three items on your list for a blast off of successfully completing goals.
Best wishes!

You're right -- telling someone is major! They are your biggest cheerleaders, nudges, supporters!

I do horrible with goals- wonderful with lists but horrible with goals? Why is that? You make it sound so easy...Maybe I shall put goal keeping on my lists? And I did realize the date but a little too late!

I wish I could be one of those 40 second-graders in your room. (forty?!) How fun to use this rocket idea.... I need to write what you wrote into my journal and then DO SOMETHING about it!

Don't I wish I'd had a teacher like you, Relyn??? I could'a been a writer a whole lot sooner.

Thanks for the list...it's timely as I've just finished one goal and am off galloping towards another.
