Sunday Morning Poetry

There is this cave
in the air behind my body

that nobody is going to touch:

a cloister, a silence

closing around a blossom of fire.
When I stand upright in the wind

my bones turn to dark emeralds.
~ from The Jewel by James Wright

These words have my knees shaking, bones tingling with familiarity of feeling... the fire within burns bright. :o) Happy Day, Relyn ((HUGS))

Words put together in beauty I would have never imagined. The images it creates are touching and spectacular.

Wow. I recognize what he's writing about in the poem (at least I have a sense of it, almost intuitive) and yet it's something that I can't put my finger on and name. It's a state; it's just something that exists. And he writes about it with searing beauty.
