Sunday Morning Poetry

One Boy Told Me

~ Naomi Shihab Nye

I absolutely love what she says at the beginning, about staying a poet. Tell me how you stay the poet of your own life.

Well now that was just awesome. I don't think I have ever given contemplation to being "the poet of my own life." I would guess it is just that I see the world in a different way from many and that I am learning to cultivate that and enjoy it rather than to stifle it as I did in the past.

I feel a blog post coming on this but I have to cogitate about it for a while.

Love what she says and what her son said to her.

Sadly, I wouldn't count myself as a poet having been encouraged from a very young age to be entirely practical, so poetry became a lost art to me. However, I do make a point of taking note of the beauty in the world and the many emotions of those living on it.

So maybe I'm a closet poet after all!

I love this -- and Gavin, my 22 year old, loved the part about no one has ever seen inside this peanut before. I liked my toes are dictionaries and my tongue is a carwash and can noodles swim.

What a very fun poem! I do remember as a child saying to myself I would be a poet when I grow up. Now sometimes when I write I wish I could say things like I thought as a child.

That's so very refreshing. Grownups don't embrace life and capture it the way children do.

You don't know how much I needed this lesson. I've been sitting here the last couple of days, not knowing what to say in my next blog post. After watching this, I feel inspired to see creativity in a different pair of eyes.

Oh, I loved this, Relyn! Stoking the creative fires is essential for me--a day in the life is not life for me without creating something, making with my hands, crafting with some words, or paint or fiber. Stoking the fires every day and honoring the gift of every and the creative process... that's me. :o) Happy Days, my friend ((HUGS))

Enchanting! I just giggled...
I have 4-yr old daughter and one of my favorite sayings of her's is, "Mommy, how was your good day?"

So charming and refreshing, Relyn! Creativity without consideration of its reception, just pure and free communication. For me, it takes solitude and tranquility, not often available in adequate quantities! xo – g
