Do you ever invent words? Sloane and I do. Definitely. The first one below was invented by Sloane when she was just four. Don't you love it?
- snortle - the honk like sound effect that combines a snort and a chuckle.
- mouse hand - the phenomenon faced by bloggers, hackers, and gamers around the world. Symptoms include extreme coldness in the hand which operates the computer mouse.
- smittle - a unit of measurement that combines a smidge and a little
- cybercation - a vacation from your cyber life

Sounds like you guys have made up some pretty good names!
I can't think of any at the moment but I love the smittle!! I may need to adapt that to my vocabulary.

Great words! The only one I can remember, not invented by me but by my partner Andy-'standibow'-a movement people do when trying to get out of the room backwards without being noticed. Something like that anyway!
Also blogger's elbow-a bit like mouse hand. I invented a small blogger's elbow cushion for myself to combat the condition!
These are just fun as all get out! I love the "snortle!"

When my husband and I were dating I had made up a word. It was spork, but now I don't remember what it meant. Hummm! I will try to remember now.
So glad I ended my cybercation in time to learn a few new words. Snortle and smittle are my favorites.

I love to make up words. My current favorite seems to be "Cuterrific" when I am talking about my girls or something they have made.
The funny thing about made up words is that they become so ordinary to us that we don't remember that they are not words in Webster's.....

I am smitten with smittle :) Love that especially. But snortle also is so cool (and these have such a playful Jabberwocky-like quality to them). It's awesome that you guys do this with words.
I took a cybercation last month. Sometimes you just need to! But now I'm loving my little blogword again, mouse hand and all.
The snortle is such a lovely and funny sound (and word!).

The post that you wrote for The Magpie's Fancy is so beautifully written. Sloane has several great role models within her own family that she'll already have a positive attitude towards marriage years from now, when she decides to say "I do". For me, believing from the beginning that it IS possible to be happily married for a long time plays a big part in the success of a marriage. That's something I learned from my Jeff and his parents.
I remember HBO used to have a feature called "sniglets". I still remember "Elviscentric" - that's when you turn the up the collar of your button-down shirt.
How marvelous!! Thank goodness you cherish the playfulness of words. Yes, invented ones are a delight and what keep the language alive and growing. And of course we can thank the greatest word inventor of all, WS, for so many fabulous words we use every day. xo
