Sunday Morning Poetry

beauty by the handful

The Act

There were the roses, in the rain.
Don't cut them, I pleaded.
They won't last, she said.
But they're so beautiful
where they are.
Agh, we were all beautiful once, she said,
and cut them and gave them to me
in my hand.
~ William Carlos Williams

They're beautiful where they are...they won't last.

These were the words that stayed with me. It made me feel that we have to change to stay beautiful, to stay fresh, but still, there are times when I just want to stay where I am.

thoughtful poem from a thoughtful woman, thank you for this Sunday morning treat!

I so agree with Emma
...there is a new depth
to your photography.
A stronger, clearer
voice.
And it's gorgeous!
Thanks so much for
sharing, dear Relyn:)

A bit melancholy, isn't it ... it reminds of one of my grandma's friends ... "you're so young and beautiful," she said, "don't forget to take the time to enjoy it ... "

Now that is a William Carlos Williams poem that I like. (Beats The Red Wheelbarrow!)

I love how I can enjoy a dash of poetry here on Sundays. Beginning soon, poetry with my 8th-graders. I always look forward to this time of the school year.
