sea anemonea

I am in need of music

I am in need of music that would flow
Over my fretful, feeling fingertips,
Over my bitter-tainted, trembling lips,
With melody, deep, clear, and liquid-slow.
Oh, for the healing swaying, old and low,
Of some song sung to rest the tired dead,
A song to fall like water on my head,
And over quivering limbs, dream flushed to glow!

There is a magic made by melody:
A spell of rest, and quiet breath, and cool
Heart, that sinks through fading colors deep
To the subaqueous stillness of the sea,
And floats forever in a moon-green pool,
Held in the arms of rhythm and of sleep

~ Elizabeth Bishop

The more of her work I read, the more I love Elizabeth Bishop.

What I like about this piece is it makes you want to know "the rest of the story" and that is always good. The photo is wonderful.

Your photo looks like music to me. That line of "healing swaying, old and low," OH how I can picture the swaying with the music oh so slow, oh so old, and oh so low. Sitting under a moon lite sky, a warm summer evening, and the scent of jasmine in the air. Oh yes, I am swaying.

There is so much longing in this poem, and it's so beautiful. But the music she's hoping for sounds almost unearthly.

LOVE this- AND subaqueous was just an 8th grade vocab word- I will have to show them this poem and that it is "real" I swear they think I make up some of the words...

My brother used to have salt water aquariums and I loved watching the anemones float and wave their arms...and can't float in water without feeling like that, too. I have not floated in water in way too long!

Oldies, but Goodies
