Why Don't You...

... turn off the TV more often?
... make a weekly tradition of family game night? Play old-fashioned games and eat simple foods like grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.
... wear comfy shoes and drag everyone out for a long walk instead?
... end the evening with a family read aloud? See my sidebar for lots of books that please adults and children alike.
... add a great audiobook to your iPod and get busy with a dreaded task?
... sit around a talk for hours?
... read some of those magazines you never seem to get to?
... get started creating that quote journal?
... challenge your spouse to a few hands of double solitaire?
... use the time to pray, do yoga, meditate, think, count your blessings?
... light a fire, sit around it, and reminisce?
... go through your boxes of old photos and just enjoy them?
... read, read, read?

The picture is one I took in San Francisco in 2009. I originally posted it here.

MMmmm . . . . what delightful ways to spend the hours . . .

It really is in the most simplest of things that we find the greatest joys.

Relyn,
I just arrived from Beth's "Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Taken." Guess what! She was talking about collection words! As I read her post, I decided that I needed a QUOTE JOURNAL. When I finish reading, I'm going to decorate a notebook and start collecting! Always love stopping by here. Thanks!
Oh, yes, your music choices are sooo soothing to me. Is this a gadget?
~hugs~

Oh, yes, yes, indeed! Thank you for posting this, Relyn. So many enriching alternates to television. I ditched mine years ago and haven't missed it at all. Occasionally I'm out of the loop on the latest hot show but so what? I can count on one hand the TV shows that have actually made a difference to my life. Compare that to books, a walk in the forest or good companionship. Well, you can't compare them, actually! Wishing you a beautiful week, dear friend. xo – g

I would do all those things, and more...

If only I could get certain others to comply...

Any ideas on influencing those who may be reluctant to join me?

Oh, I would like to combine some of these...like, turn off the tv, make myself a gooey grilled cheese (haven't had one of those in WAY TOO LONG) and sit back and listen to an audiobook....I have never done that. Which is strange because I so love being read to. I really must do this...any good suggestions? Any favourite narrators? Because a bad narrator could quite possibly distract me out of a potentially really good book!

Good ideas to do instead of just watching tv! Thank you for the challange.

Love the ideas Relyn! I personally hate the tv- I really do- much prefer activities like reading, cross stitching, talking, music. I would have done well in the Jane Austen age or in Little House on the Prairie (except for the plumbing and hygeine issues)alit.

Oh, I love your Mondays, Relyn! Many of these I do already... Maybe I can get hubby to do a romantic game night for two?! :o) We hardly watch TV at all. We prefer a movie, usually during the weekend then there's time. A the moment we're listening Harry Potter audio books in the evenings--very fun! I knit while we listen. Hubby pets the cat...It's very cozy scene... Happy Week, my friend ((HUGS))

Great ideas! Especially prefer reading to tv and looking at magazines is the very best. Hadn't thought about a Quote Journal, but great idea. I guess in a way I have one, as I keep them in a document file.

I've noticed that several of us have seized upon the quote journal, but don't we all need them? One thing about the blog world is that it exposes you to wonderful and inspiring words every day. I have scraps of paper all over my desk . . .

I love these ideas...I really need to do the first more often...I watch way too much tv...

I started a quote journal this year! I have a suspicion that I will fill it just from the quotes I've already collected that are scattered here and there .. so I might need a second one. :)

Sounds like you're having a lovely spring break!
