a July snowball

The title of this post could be the shutters, the door, the other door, the house numbers, the garage trim, the two sets of door knobs, a doorbell, and the new keys.  For almost a year now, I have had "paint the shutters and front door" on my to do list.  Our shutters were faded and losing more color every day.  Our house needed some attention!

We can finally check off that item.  But...

Isn't it interesting (maybe frightening is a better word) the way one improvement project snowballs?

Let me warn you now.  If you are going to paint shutters and a front door to change them from a non-descript burgundy to a snappy black, you are going to do a whole lot of painting and changing and repairing and improving.

If you paint the front door, you need to paint the back door.  When you paint back door, you will notice how cruddy your knobs and locks have become, so you need to replace them with new ones.  When you have shiny knobs on the back door, you will realize you need shiny knobs on the front door.  When you have shiny knobs on the front door, you will notice that you need a new doorbell because yours has faded to the color of pee.  When you have a new doorbell, you will decide to take off that nasty brass kick plate, and that you should buy new house numbers.  When you put up new house numbers over the garage door, you will notice that the trim really needs repainting.  And so it snowballs...

The picture is a little snow in July; just for you.  This idea originally brought to you by Laura Numeroff and her cookie loving mouse.

Been there done that! And then we tore out carpet in two bathrooms, put in tile floors and now the countertops look awful, as you said it snowballs.

Yeah you! Projects like the one you describe are the best... after they're all finished. ;-)

If you give a mouse a cookie ...

I bet it looks great though. Don't you feel pleased as punch to have it done?

How I know this one. We will start painting our house in August and I already can imagine. Like the idea of a snappy black front door. That might look nice with the grey and white of the house. But doesn't it feel good when all said and done?

Smiling at your to-do list and how it replenishes itself.

Oh, this reminds me of the many houses that we ripped up and and redid this or that. We've sanded floors down, ripped up lots of carpet, wallpaper, tile...you name it. Have hardly done a thing this the current house but I think my husband would like to have a go at something he can take apart...oh wait...he just built himself a new gaming computer!! Whew...I didn't have to help this time!

cooling image
to hold against my overheated neck
and let trickle down
and soothe:)
hope the snowballing
carves some spaces
that you really, really like
...some fresh new smiles
for the days to come!
snowy love to you,

Oh, don't I know this!! Today I just wanted to find some decorative furnace vent covers to replace the boring ones we have. Many trips around the house with a measuring tape made me realize I have to get them custom made as the sizes are all non standard. Plus do some repair work on the baseboard moulding. Ugh.

I guess that's why we've been here 5 years and I still don't have my new bathtub even though the money for it is sitting in the bank!

Every family should have a contractor in it, I believe. Oh, also a dentist and lawyer. :)

Would love to see a photo of your new front entry. xo

GASP! You painted your shutters black?! There's an old house across the street from our church with black shutters and I absolutely adore . . .

{thought I do hate the snowballing effect. Eek!}

Oh, ugh. You are reminding me that the doors need painting. Probably the shutters, but definitely the doors. And I really don't feel like it, but they are looking a bit shabby... And then what? Oh, don't start me!

Love it --- so terribly horribly wonderfully true. Check out my latest blog post (just posted a few minutes ago)to see how a couple of garage sale bookshelves turned into a complete play room remodel!!! LOL :)

When you give a mouse a cookie.... INDEED!!! He's going to want a new colored door to munch that cookie near... I actually did not see your little inspiration comment until after I typed the first line. Great minds...Good luck with the projects- I know that feeling!

Oldies, but Goodies
