my brave girl

Sloane leaves today for 10 days in Oregon with her cousins and grandparents.
Without us.

When I was 10, I would have been just as excited and as eager as she is now.
(My Mom says that's true, by the way.)

Now that I am 41, I know just how brave she is.
I am proud that she is a girl who does things, who goes places, who takes risks.

I pray that she never loses the heart of the girl she is right now.
This silly, funny, constantly-reading, brave little girl.

I hope she is always ready to pack a backpack full of books (9 for this trip),
a Bible, a journal, her favorite pen, colored pencils, a pack of gum, and Gareth.

And me?  I'll be the one waving and smiling as she flies away,
knowing I've tucked goodies and love notes into all the corners of her bag.

I'll be the one cheering her on; delighted that she's a risk-taker.
I'll be the one standing there crying, holding her Daddy's hand; so proud I could burst.

Letting go... So hard in many ways but so beautiful to watch.
Somewhat like a butterfly as God gives them wings to fly.
Enjoy every moment, the process goes so quickly.

I love how she's packed nine books for this trip! And what an adventure! I'm sure she'll be talking about this and remembering it forever. (Hugs to you as she lifts off.)

I have a feeling she will stay that way . . . just like her mama!

Oh this is such a sweet post! All ways.

And it is so wonderful that she is able to experience time away, with grandparents and cousins.

I never had the experience but from what I have read, those times make wonderful memories for kids. And they let cousins get to know each other, etc.

Plus, how GREAT it must be for the grandparents can't even be calculated. :-)

Hugs to you, proud and brave Mommy!

The year our daughter was 10 she flew from Colorado to California to spend the summer with her Grandmother, I was working in a year round school and didn't want her home alone. It was the longest summer of my life, she enjoyed it, I hated it.

Of course she is an adventurer! Just look at her mum! I love that she's taking this big trip on her own at 10. That was the age I was when I took my first plane trip ever and I was on my own, too. So glad I did, as it instilled a wanderlust in me that has only strengthened over the years. Yay for Sloane! xo

Sloane is beautiful and she will have a lovely time in Oregon. And you will be fine without her. :)

Sloane is growing up and you are allowing her to spread her wings. You, I know, are a very proud mama indeed and rightly so. Yes, she will come home with delightful memories of a special time that is all her own. How wonderful! I still remember times like this when I was growing up.

I was thinking how brave YOU are too! I'm sure she'll love Oregon (my home state, so I'm biased). It's wonderful to see how confident she is.

I'm sure you'll feel weird while she's away, but knowing you, Relyn, you will also find wonderful things to enjoy about your 10 days. xox

I was waiting to hear you would be crying, because I would be, too! She's so lovely and will have a glorious time, but oh -- how hard, those early goodbyes!

Oh boy, do I get this!
I named my daughter Amelia, in '73
wanting her to be brave and strong and adventurous and independent
...bingo
What more loving thing can we do for our children but to encourage and nurture their lives.....let them go and they return
hold on with loose reins
trust in the Lord and hold them in prayer....I still remind my 38 year old son that he is carried in prayer by his mother everyday..
and now that he is father of 2..he gets it
here's keeping you all in prayer for a joyous, safe adventure for sloane

(((Hugs))) it is hard to let them go!
I love the picture you have here...
you can see she is turning into a beautiful young lady rather than the cute little girl :)

I'm proud of you for understanding that children do need to 'fly' sometimes under a wee bit of supervision, but with lots of love. Hope she is having a wonderful time.
