comforts

Week 2 of the Wednesday Lists, Part 2
Prompt: List your greatest comforts

* fresh flowers * a nap on my Mom's sofa * my own and my family's deep, deep faith * when Jeffrey tucks a throw around me as I sit on the sofa and read * Yo Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone * the thick hiking socks I stole from Jeffrey and wear instead of slippers * poetry * real wood fire in the fireplace * looking down at my hand when I wear my Dad's signet ring * the gentle smell that comes from a handful of daffodils * chocolate chip cookies warm from the oven * the way Jeffrey massages my head when I have a headache and as I fall asleep * Tuesday nights with our small group * writing in my journal * visiting blog friends * a pedicure * the quiet peace that descends on our house when we all three sit in the same room and read our own books * my warm bed made up with icy blue soft cotton sheets scented with lavender spray and the silk quilt my Dad bought for me  in China * snuggling with Sloane on a Saturday morning * getting lost in a book * a clean and tidy house * thinking of my Grandpa and his twinkly blue, blue eyes * long soaks in a big, hot tub * coloring * reading old letters * calling my Mom * a hug from my Dad * the way Miss Maudie flops down on my feet for a belly rub * being held by Jeffrey * Rosamunde Pilcher stories * writing thank you notes * dining by candlelight * reading my Dad's Bible and paying special attention to the things he underlined * the blue of a robin's egg * peppermint foot lotion * fog * an hour spent looking at old photos * floating on my back in any water I can find * old quilts * the sound an old deck of cards makes as you shuffle it * the smell that lives at the back of a baby's neck * the sound of rain * thinking of going home again to live in Tennessee * the tick of a mantle clock * a long road on a full moon night * my song *

This old picture from 2008 was perfect for the post.  It's my bed after a Saturday morning snuggle, and that's my Dad's Bible on it.

Your lists are always the best. Ahhh peppermind foot lotion, Rosamunde Pilcher books, candlelight, a full moon night on a long road, visiting blog friends like you is the very best.

i love this....what a warm
bath of comfort this is.
i got a happy shiver from the idea
of you moving to Tennessee
...i visit my daughter there
in Nashville...you'd seem so close!
a long road on a moonlit night
makes me swoon, as does the rest
of your beautiful, beautiful heart.

Just reading this list made me smile! Love . . .

That picture makes me want to go back to bed for a nap! The trouble with beds and naps is that it's much more fun to nap in a messy bed, and I already made mine.

I am trying to figure out who Miss Maudie is. Am I missing a classic in books-I-have-read? (Oh. I had to look it up. Why don't I remember her? I need to reread it clearly.)

I am reading your list of comforts and recognizing that we share many of the same (in fact, I just bought daffs the other day!). Your bed looks so comfy and lovely -- every time I try to make mine, Lizzie's inner alley cat comes out and she dives into the blankets with great ferocity! Yours is enviably tidy!

Your comfort list was comforting to read! How I love a good bed... and books to get lost in are the best. Oh, and those snuggles with the daughter. Yes, yes, yes!

Oh, such comforts! They almost have me a little homesick, with references to home & family... I'm feeling it's been some months since seeing my family back home in the State and hope we can visit them there soon. I would love a long soak in a warm bath. I miss a bath tub, we only have a shower stall. I could do with a lavender-scented bath. I've been down with the flu. I'm taking time off and digital sabbatical too to recuperate from this bug that doesn't want to budge. So comforts feel even more needed at the moment! Happy Days, my friend :o) ((HUGS))

I found it comforting to read your comfort list. So many "mind trips" as I read...to the bath, to the fire, to see the color of the robin's egg. Fog freaks me out-not comforting, but the rest...perfection!

The beauty of your list is that it makes us all think of the simple pleasures in life that comfort us and for which we should be more thankful! Thanks so much. Your blog is always so worthwhile visiting. Very nourishing.

Lovely list. Just reading it is a comfort, because of all the emotions/memories/sensations it evokes.
