Sunday Morning Poetry

After English Class

I used to like "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."
I liked the coming darkness,
The jingle of harness bells, breaking--and adding to
--the stillness,
The gentle drift of snow. . . .
But today, the teacher told us what everything stood for.
The woods, the horse, the miles to go, the sleep--
They all have "hidden meanings."
It's grown so complicated now that,
Next time I drive by,
I don't think I'll bother to stop.

I've liked the last couplea 'sunday poems' you've posted, Relyn.......this one too......yeah, I always hated the autopsy approach taken with others' poetry, with others' hearts.......

....to just let it be, to let it be the mirror the artist intended, and not to shatter it into a thousand pieces, which ruins the still reflection.

Funny... Oh, yes, life is complicated, and everything seems to have double or triple meanings--so much to decipher. ;o) Happy Days, Relyn ((HUGS))

Haha the face off with the world for the child. I still remember falling n love with poetry after reading this one, it had struck a chord within my soul, which is still ringing.

Oh yes indeed! I think a lot of damage has been done by how poetry has been "taught" over the years...

This makes me smile. We just love the mystery of things sometimes and when the mystery is revealed it doesn't enchant us any more. Fun poem!

Oh indeed - the number of poems that have lost their visceral sense for me because of analysis ... Great choice for today :).

Oldies, but Goodies
