I take old favorites to the beach and pool: Chocolat, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. This way I won't mind if the book gets a bit waterlogged or sandy. These are great stories I don't mind revisiting although I'm not usually a re-reader. The Interestings and the new Diana Gabaldon are on my summer reads list.
Right now I am reading On Sal Mal Lane by Ru Freeman. It is about how the inhabitants of one street in Clombo got affected by the beginning of the SriLankan civil war in the 1970s.

Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen is one I just enjoyed. Reading a murder mystery by Cara Black right now. They all take place in Paris and is fun to imagine being there and walking with the main character as she solves the mystery.
Looks like some lovely ideas! I'm currently reading The Father Brown mysteries (G.K. Chesterton, naturally). I have a P.G. Wodehouse lined up (The Swoop!) and a co-worker lent me The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. Light, fun-hearted reads are my favorite for summer . . .
At the moment, I am reading the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, which are excellent, if you like fantasy.
Recent good reads: An Irish Country Doctor (Patrick Taylor, sweet + an easy read); Half Magic (Edward Eager, YA, if you liked Roald Dahl's Matilda, you'll probably like this); Book of a Thousand Days (Shannon Hale, YA, I LOVED this); The Smartest Kids in the World (Amanda Ripley, non-fiction, quite interesting); 84 Charing Cross Road (Helene Hanff, sweet + funny); Still Alice (Lisa Genova, about dementia, fascinating + sad).
