I Collect...

Week 4 of the Wednesday lists
I don't consider myself a collector, so it was fun to sit down and really think about all the things I actually do collect.

* Japanese fishing floats ~ I only have a few since we're too landlocked to have much luck anymore.
* books, books, books ~ I especially love gorgeously illustrated children's fairy tales
* tote bags ~ I don't think so, but Jeffrey says I definitely have an addiction.
* stationary ~ There is nothing like a handwritten letter on fine paper.
* postcards ~ from art museums of images I saw in person and loved
* Swarovski ~ the annual ornament for my Christmas tree
* original watercolor images by Rosie Winstead
* old chandelier prisms for my Christmas tree
* glass ~ mercury, crystal, apothecary, Waterford...
* back issues of Victoria magazine
* unphotographable moments
* DVDs ~ I do love a good movie.
* favorite images on Flickr
* colorful office supplies
* Old love letters
* paper

* experiences ~ Absolutely. Look here and here and here.

Every time I read your posts I am amazed yet again by what we have in common. Tote bags and chandelier crystals and illustrated fairy tale books and so much more. Sigh. Love your list.

I love this list. I collect books, state quarters, and special art pieces from our travels.

I have joined you in your list making! My first list is at www.ayearofhappy.com.

I share in collecting books, dvds, Victoria magazines, experiences--and possibly tote bags (my husband would say so, too!). I remember searching for Japanese fishing floats years ago when we lived in Oregon. Since they can be notoriously hard to find, we finally gave up and bought one in a gift shop!

It is interestign to read about your collections. I share paper, books, tote bags, art postcards and magazines! It is managing collections that can be tricky. I am quite organised but they do have a habit of spilling out of control. I found a great book the other day which describes perfectley how I feel and made me feel much better about myself! This book-

It is great! It is of course now in my collection of books!
Oh-and good for you dancing away the blues with your class! I think some teachers try to hide how they are feeling and this just creates more stress. Children respond so well to honesty and like all of us need strategies to understand and deal with their feelings. I bet your class has such fun with you!

So much on this list would be on my own too, Relyn! I'm a paper junkie--anything stationery/office supply-related--gotta have! ;o) Books...never enough books...*swoon*... As a maker of tote bags, never enough of those either. ;o), and I love Swarovski crystals--mostly for beading and jewelry-making. Wonderful fun list... Happy Day, my friend ((HUGS))

Love the list! Love the thought. I am stealing it for the blog. I collect way too many things but I am working on that as HHBL and I are "right-sizing" now that the progeny are out of the house.

I got rid of a bunch of books last summer. The house feels so much lighter. (I still love books!!)

Sounds like a mighty fine list of things to collect to me. As you know, I collect salt and pepper shakers and stamps. My sissie has brought me salt and pepper shakers from all over the world! Just wish I had a place to display them all. I have some packed away. We started collecting them when we first got married. I had a couple from when I was a young lady.

From one list maker to another...I look forward to these lists every week :) I enjoyed looking at many of your images on flickr. I have a childhood postcard collection that I uncovered and am seriously thinking of re-visiting the collecting of them!

Tote bags don't count do they? I mean they are necessary, in all shapes and sizes with and without monograms and names of places! I don't think about my books as a collection, but since they are all over the house...well, maybe. I always say I don't collect things, but I think I might!

I'm afraid between B and I our list might morph into an entire blog. I especially love your chandelier prism collection (they will always remind me of my wedding) and next year I might start collecting the swarovsky ornament. I actually collect snowflake ornaments and last year I purchased the swarovsky one for all my bridesmaids. I have no idea why I didn't get another :)

Relyn,

You and I have much in common. It is unusual to find someone who loves fishing floats. My hubby has been collecting them for me ever since I found my first on the Queen Mary!

I haven't been lucky enough to find one just on the beach however. They are beautiful.

Such noble urges! One can never have too many...

Your list was great. As someone who is trying to divest, it was a pleasure to read the ramblings of a die-hard collector.

I do the postcard at the art museum collecting, too. It's an inexpensive way to have a master piece at home! Love your list.

Love your list! I'm also a huge collector of books and stationary. In this age of email, receiving a handwritten note is always such a wonderful treat :)

I always say I try not to collect, but when I see a special teapot, book, Christmas tree ornament, oh yes Victoria magazine, pictures, antiques - Yes, I do collect.
Thanks for sharing your list.

Hi Relyn, I was just laughing at the long list of someone who doesn't consider themselves a collector. Funny how we don't always realise the things we do until we sit down and think about it. I totally get you on the books front and the nice stationary!

I love your list.... I collect books, of course, and particularly love children's picture books... but also have books on writing and tons of teacher-related books. I collect papers and pens. And bags. I guess there comes a time when you really don't need another one! And I've collected seashells, but they always seem to get tossed out by my husband before I've even taken them inside.

I may have to do this one one of these days! I love your list!

Here's to collecting books--nothing like wanting a good read, going to the bookshelf and picking one up!

Suvarna said...

oooh I love a good collector! I'm not sure why really but I do think it's one of those of things which are necessary to a healthy life (kept in balance of course).
I teeter on the edge of that balance when it comes to photography related things.

he he I love that you collect postcards too, I never leave a gallery without a postcard of the exhibit, it's very affordable art!

by far the best though, those unphotographable moments, keep em coming!

I love your list- those are cool collections! I have to laugh at the tote bags- I have the same affliction and was JUST thinking yesterday that mine are somewhat like time capsules. I tend to abandon them when I get a new one...only there's still stuff inside- weird I know, but...knd of interesting when I happen upon one here and there.

Oooh, old chandelier prisms for a Christmas tree would be so lovely! I love it!!! And, it sounds as if we collect much the same things! :)

Pretty stationary, handwritten letters, good books, original glass, creative photographs...oh yes! I'm curious to know what your Japanese fishing floats look like, Relyn. They must make for an interesting display.

Illustrated fairy tales....I have started my own little collection. It's one of my greatest comforts...to walk into the children's section of a beloved bookstore and soak up the beautiful imagery there. I wish I had a bigger book budget sometimes. There are so many beautiful ones!

Oldies, but Goodies
