another ordinary miracle

"They make me look smarter."

I wish I'd had my camera when we picked up Sloane's glasses on Monday.
I wish I could have captured forever the awe on her face.

Mom! I can see every leaf. Every. single. one.
And I'm not even near the tree!
WOW!

I'm sure the optician thought I was crazy
when I teared up right there in the doctor's office.

But, there it was.
The miracle of sight.
How could such a gift not make me cry?

My baby got glasses this week. Isn't she the cutest thing ever? Excepting, of course, your own daughters.

She looks darling! I remember my mom saying that after her cataract surgery! She said the paint in her home was different than she thought it was!

Absolutely adorable! Love it!

She is beautiful. I remember having that exact same reaction when I was her age, my first pair of pale pink glasses, it was a miracle to me! I had no idea I should be able to see every leaf. Thank you for the memory :-)

Oh that's beautiful! I too got glasses at that age & it really is amazing how different the world seems. How wonderful that she was so positively affected. Her glasses look ace!

What a precious gift sight is. Tell Sloane that I love her new glasses. She looks so cute in them. I remember how wonderful it was to be able to see when I got my first glasses.

You know, Relyn, my daughter said the exact same thing....she could see all the leaves on the tree. She was 9. Now she is a grown woman, but I still remember that day.

She looks so cute in her glasses. My son got his in the third grade and one of the first things he noticed were the leaves in the trees. Wow, what we take for granted.

I think I felt similar to your daughter during spring break the sophmore year of college. I asked my mom who was born with retinitis pigmentosa what things looked like to her when she could last see (she was around 5). She described how the canopy of trees looked like a solid ball. She said it confused her to be able to pull down and feel a single leaf. On my way back to college, I remember looking at every single leaf and appreciating that I have the gift of sight!

Such SUPER-STYLISH glasses there, Miss Sloane... WOW... she looks so beautiful, Relyn. So glad you shared this magic moment. I've worn glasses since I was 10. Because of the shape of one of my eyes, I can't do contacts. And I don't mind. Glasses are great. I'd feel naked without them... LOL! I hope Sloane will keep loving her glasses and amazed by the wonder of sight using them. It is a gift! :o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

I first had to wear glasses when I was working in Venezuela, aged around 21. Even then, I remember the optician saying how everyone smiles at the realisation that they can see so much better!

I would have teared up too... how could you not really? It's just so precious. You're right ... and everyday miracle.

I love those.

Sloane looks so cute in glasses! I know just how she felt. When I got glasses I was in awe of the details that I had been missing, too!

Definitely the cutest! My son got glasses when he was 4 years old. We could understand why he couldn't see the cows when we drove down country roads. It is a thrill to know they can see with glasses. Yes, a miracle.

Yep, that's a pretty special moment. You may not have captured it on your camera but you captured it perfectly in words, Relyn. And this is such a beautiful portrait of your beautiful daughter.
