November eves

Eliza Bennett

It's 8 o'clock on a Saturday night and I am sitting here listening to the wind chimes on the back porch. From time to time the dogs jump on the back door to peer in the window, which makes the door rattle. It's a sound that calls us out to spend time with them. Sloane is bundled up because the night has turned cold and the wind is arctic. She keeps saying, "Mom, are you ready? Are you coming? Let's take these dogs for a walk." And I say, "Yes, let's. The moon is beautiful, let's go enjoy this night."

And I think of you one last time tonight. I wish you a long walk with chattering child, an exuberant dog or two, and the man you love. I wish you cold toes and a warm heart. I wish you warm mittens. I hope that you notice the curious way that laughter is carried better on a cold night.

Good night, friends. Sweet dreams.

Beautiful!

Laughter and voices do seem louder and warmer and more vibrant on a freezing night.

And you're right that along with the walking there should be time to also sit and savor the beautiful world.

You pictured it all so well. Glad you had such a beautiful evening. Such a lovely wet nose. What are the names of your doggies.

Lovely post. Brought back good memories of walks with my girls when they were in Middle School and High School. (When it was dark outside and they couldn't see how shocked I was, they used to spill it all on those walks.) Hope you and your Sloane had a wonderful time!

Lubna, They are Eliza Bennet (Pride and Prejudice) and Miss Maudie (To Kill a Mockingbird). The one in the picture is Eliza Bennet. They are a gorgeous matched set. Hard to tell them apart if you don't know them.

I can hear your lighthearted voices
ringing out across the starry night
and it makes my heart
skip alongside your laughter
and happy swing my arms free
and smile at frozen breath:)
thanks for this beautiful frosty
share,
Jennifer

I wish you more of the same Relyn! I do the walk with the love of my life in the morning and we have now had to take 2 dog walks as one is too old to go as far as the young one! My toes are always cold this time of year!
Blessings!
