Sunday Morning Poetry

after the storm

Storm Ending

Thunder blossoms gorgeously above our heads
Great, hollow, bell-like flowers,
Rumbling in the wind,
Stretching clappers to strike our ears . . .
Full-lipped flowers
Bitten by the sun
Bleeding rain
Dripping rain like golden honey-
And the sweet earth flying from the thunder.
~ Jean Toomer

Jean Toomer was a poet of the Harlem Renaissance.  Read more about him here.  I took this photo just 30 minutes after the Joplin, Missouri tornadoes came through.

What an incredible view to be faced with! How long did it stay this way before the colours shifted?

Love the poem... Powerful in its brevity. 'Great, hollow, bell-like' is such a strong description for a flower. Wonderful. Will check Toomer out now....

Amazing word interpretation...

Amazing photo...

"The cottage garden;
most for use designed,
Yet not of beauty destitute."

The colors in that photo are amazing. Wow! And how wonderful that you knew of a poem that describes your photo just perfectly. Good job Relyn.

Thunder as a blossoming flower is a beautiful idea. I love how Toomer writes it here.

Oldies, but Goodies
