Vacation Views

We enjoyed a wonderful road trip this summer. Here's a peek.

This was a homestead museum and a tourist trap.
We didn't pay the $12 entrance fee since I got all I really wanted - a great picture.

There was an old fashioned general store right beside the prairie dog town.
They sold prairie dog food, among other things.
Know what prairie dog food is?  Peanuts.  Yup.

We went climbing in the Badlands.  Sloane got much highter than I did.
In fact, she got so high at one point that her Dad had to climb up and rescue her.
I wish I had been there for sunset.  I bet the light turns the sandstone into rainbows.

You really can't travel through South Dakota and miss Mt. Rushmore.
After we were finished Jeffrey asked Sloane what she thought.
Her answer?  "Well, that was really random."  That's one word for it.
Have you ever noticed how Lincoln looks more like a young Elvis than Lincoln?

I agree with Sloane, Mt. Rushmore's no thrill.
These guys were actually my favorite part of the visit.

I love that look on Sloane's face.
She's at the age between little girl and young woman just now.
I love that in this one, the little girl shines through.
It's like she just knows a wish on that huge dandilion is bound to come true.

What about you, friends?  What did you do with your summer?

When I was a very young child I thought Mt. Rushmore was a natural rock formation. LOL

I met you and Jeffrey on your summer vacation. Mt. Rushmore, I agree, not particularly one I would repeat. Then again you have to do it once if you are in the area. Love the photo and glad you didn't have to pay to get in.

That was my first thought in that first picture of Sloan...almost a young woman! Sounds like you had a wonderful time! My only trip so far was a long weekend in Park City to visit my dad. A great time and now it looks like there will be a big family Christmas there as well! Thanks for always being here!
xoxo, Kirsten

Hi Relyn! Your holiday looks great. I love the photos you shared. I would love to see the random Mount Rushmore! We went to see a blog friend of mine at the start of the summer-in Washington State. It was lovely! Then I did loads and loads of jobs around the house and it now looks much better!
Happy Autumn!

It's been a very quiet summer here.
I like the homestead museum and red wagon wheels.

What fun! I do love a good road trip . . .

I haven't been the Mt. Rushmore since an adult. When I was a kid, I remember I being bored to tears. I always figured it was being a kid; maybe I'd be the same, now. :)

I love this post!

I haven't been to any of these places (yet) but your photos have at least given me a taste. It's great that you've made wonderful memories.

And I laughed at Sloane's assessment of Mt. Rushmore being 'random' because it is, isn't it? It's just a bunch of presidential heads carved on rock in the middle of wilderness. If you didn't know what it was, and you came across it, you'd probably just think, "What the heck?"

HKatz, Even knowing exactly what it is, when you see it you still think, "What the heck?"

Oldies, but Goodies
