a love note from Sloane
Today's prompt: handwriting
You know I love presents, right? I love the big gesture, like the Christmas after Sloane was born when Jeffrey secretly saved up and bought me a video camera so I record all Sloane's precious babyhood before it slipped away. I love the little gesture, like the note (above) that Sloane left for me in my closet, just because. I love the cards in the mail from far away friends. I love the packages that arrive from blogging friends packed full of creativity and love.
I don't just love getting presents, I love giving them. I love writing cards, leaving a note and a candy bar on a friend's desk, making care packages to send to Sloane at camp. I love mailing art and photographs to grandparents, and searching for the perfect gift to mark a birthday. There are so many great things to give, but the gift I give most often is a book. One of the books I read recently is by author/photographer JaTawny Muckelvene Chatmon. I am so pleased to have a chance to give away a copy of her lovely book, "Getting Lost". It's full of beautiful black and white images like the one below. The words are all love notes full of wisdom from a mother to her daughter. Here is my favorite:
If you believe in magic, your life will be magical.
If you would like a chance to win a copy of "Getting Lost", just leave a comment below. Please tell me one of your favorite gifts to give. I'll draw the winner on August 17th. Good luck.
Update: Wow, you guys are wonderful gift givers. I am feeling inspired. The winner is Grace Gal. Congratulations.

My favorite gifts are the ones you know are perfect for the recipient. But generally speaking . . . I love to give gifts full of fallish delight: candles, books, and tea. :)
It varies from person to person. My son is an artist and it is always fun to shop for gifts for him. That's a wonderful B/W photo.
I love your post on handwriting. I am also doing the August Break. It is fun to see how differently everyone translates the words. Yes, I would love to be included in the drawing.
Oops! My favorite gifts to give are ones that I find spontaneously and just know it is perfect for a certain person. I just can't resist when that happens and love to give more than to receive.
I love giving candles. No.. that I sell Origami Owl I gift lockers and charms. A little expensive though. I love the thought of telling your own story. I'm not posting to advertise.....I seriously love gifting it. I have sold it for a year and still haven't made . any money. I'd Love winning a copy of this book. Thanks.

My gifts are kindness and love.
Blessings my friend

Hi, Reyln! So wonderful you're doing August Break too--fun to catch up with your daily posts! This is sweet. Anything given from the heart is a gift--big and small...as long as it's from the heart, that's all that matters. :o) Happy Days ((HUGS))
That's a beautiful photo. I love choosing presents for others, too. My favourite gifts to give are those that the recipient couldn't easily get where they live, so I tend to give special Scottish things. My friends and family may get tired of Harris Tweed but if so, they haven't said yet!
Hubby and I had a big discussion about gifts a while back. I had to explain to him that while I needed a new vacuum, it wasn't a gift, but a maintenance item. My gifts have been a lot more fun since.
My favorite gift to give is art, but I rarely do. Taste is so subjective so there are only a few people and a few instances when I can be sure that I have found something that might be loved by the recipient. When it happens - and I'm right - BLISS!
Quilts that I have made are my favorite gift to give.
I am probably too late but I am going to get in on the fun anyway :). I love giving things away too. I love giving books especially and a framed photo when I caught the person unaware. The thing I give the most is probably prayers. I often pray over the phone with a friend or in person occasionally. My favorite of all is when I find the perfect gift for someone.
I like to give something I've made that I think they might like.

Gifts! We all love to receive them, that is for sure. The thing that I love to give the most is the gift of time. Sitting with and listening to someone else. In this day and age, when we are bombarded on all sides by things that grab at our attention I often think that we are unaware of how much sitting and spending time with someone is the most important thing.
Please count ne in Relyn.....the gift I love to give is something handmade!
