the power of cheesecake

I've been fairy quiet in this place lately.  It's just so easy to become overwhelmed by life and forget to make time to reflect and record the days.  Oh, I write in my own journals every day.  But, there's just something about sharing your stories with someone else that I find compelling.  So.  Here I am again, after months of near silence, hoping I still have someone who wants to hear a few of my ramblings.

Nearly a month ago, Sloane had a bike wreck and received a concussion. For the first several hours she couldn't remember the past three days or form new memories.  Those were a few long, scary hours, let me tell you.  She had a few weeks of no physical activity and a lot of brain rest.  From there, our schedule jumped right into full on crazy.  I was gone for work, we had guests, I had parent teacher conferences, grade cards are nearly due...  Blah, blah, blah.  We all have busy lives and busy seasons.  February has been one of mine.  I'm just weary.

Jeffrey and Sloane get up early most Saturday mornings and go for a hike in time to see the sunrise.  I go sometimes, but they knew that what I really needed was rest.  Late this morning they called me excitedly to share their plans for the rest our day.   There are lots of things on the list, things they both know I love.  Things like shopping in some favorite stores, dinner at a family favorite restaurant.  This afternoon includes dropping me off at Barnes and Noble for some time to browse all the books and yummy magazines and enjoy a piece of cheesecake.

It's a simple thing, really: quiet time in a bookstore and cheesecake.  It's also profound.  You see, Jeffrey knows me.  He knows me and he loves me and he looks for ways to give me what I need (quiet) and what I enjoy (chocolate).  Cheesecake is a small thing.  It can also be everything, can't it?

We all need some quiet time, particularly with something chocolate.
Sorry to hear about Sloane's accident, but it sounds like she's getting better. Love to see a sunrise, but don't often get up early enough to see one.

The accident had to scare you. So glad she is okay now.
When I was ten I took off on my little bike to ride three miles to my friends house. As I went across the railroad tracks that were cris crossed on the road. I flipped and was out for who knows how long. I woke up to a man asking me if he could help. We are talking the middle of no where, farm land. I never went to the doctor and I think I went ahead and rode my bike. So scary looking back. So glad that we watch over our kids more now and go to the doctor.
Funny, we went to B
and N today. Love to spend time there.
Hugs

Definitely it can be everything sometimes. Just those small things in life that make us smile. Love seeing you here with just this post.

So glad to have you back--especially glad Sloane is OK. Yikes!

And love really does boil down to the little things, doesn't it? Sigh.

I hope your daughter is better. That must have been quite scary.

Bookstores and cheesecake - two of my favorites, also!

I love this photo. It reminds me of Easter.

That really is scary, and I'm hoping she continues to recover (or is already completely well).

Yes, sometimes all you need is quiet and chocolate. You're lucky to have loved ones who understand what you need and show you their love in small but significant acts of thoughtfulness and care :)

Oldies, but Goodies
