Sloane and I always snuggle together and read a bit before lights out. Last night she snapped her graphic novel shut and looked up at me with a disgusted expression. "Man! Shakespeare sure is weird." she said.
The book? Romeo and Juliet.
Maybe she's right.
August Break, day 11. Photo: The words and image in this post are only related by the fact that I found them both to be adorable. The picture is of one of my students on the first day of school. See why I love my job?

Man! Shakespeare sure can be weird!! If Romeo had just used the chicken feather to check Juliet's breathing... so impatient, so dramatic :)
That is too funny. She's right, you know!
Love the photo! A kid full of happiness, fun and wonder :)
Oh, that is so sweet, and so funny too! But you know, she may be young, but she is bold enough to say what she thinks--I like that! And, when you stop and think about it, there is a LOT of weirdness in Shakespeare. So many convoluted plots, so much drama, dysfunction, toxic characters... I think I'm just at a point where I want positive stories! haha... That photo is adorable, Relyn--what a cutie-pie! Happy Weekend to you & yours ((HUGS))
Funny! I love the fact that children can just say what they think honestly without years of knowledge hanging over them and getting in the way!
Thanks for all your comments yesterday-and thanks Sloane and friend for the vote of confidence on the scissors!
Relyn, Sloan is just lovely, those beautiful eyes. I never read Shakespeare until high school. I like she speaks her mind. she must get her love of books from you. be well, your a treasure. hugs.
I'm sure, at Sloane's age, I didn't even know Shakespeare or how weird he can be!
Thanks for your visits!
I'm gonna have to agree with her on that one. At the very least, he's a TAD bit dramatic ...
Out of the mouths of babes...and I have to agree with Sloane! Cute pic!
Weird, but oh so wonderful!
Oh, that photo of your student is just pure gold.
xoxo Gigi
That's a cheeky pic of your cute student! Sloane says it like it is - how refreshing, x
Those sweet faces greeting me each morning would make my heart jump with JOY. I sat with my snow cone this week watching sweet faces dance in the Beverly Cleary fountain.
Love that Sloane would think to comment on Shakespeare like that. She is so perceptive.
lol. i would love to know if she maintains that opinion a few years down the line.
Love your student's photo and Sloane's words! Both so cute!
She is such a little doll. I'm trying to imagine my child reading Shakespeare at that age...nope, can't imagine it. She was very much into the Goosebump books at that age.
out of the mouth of babes.....
but i do think she's right :)
At her age I would have thought Romeo and Juliet was pretty strange, too!
xo Erin
Shakespeare is definitely a little weird. :)
And I think that picture is adorable!
she is *so* beautiful! and to be her age and have an opinion about romeo and juliet? well, let me just say she is so lucky!
Adorable...what a good face:)
-Jennifer
Such a perfect portrait...adorably cropped...and she just cracked me up too:)
Ha. Out of the mouths of (babes).
Adorable photo, spunky and joyful and precious! Not sure what to think about her thoughts on the Bard. But I didn't fall for him until I was 12 so I guess there's time. :) Hope you are having a fabulous weekend. xoxo
Relyn, you've given me a giggle this morning :) Thank You! Sloane is beautiful and you are truly blessed. Enjoy your little angel, and Kudos to you for reading Shakespeare with her. You're a good, good Mamma!
Love and Hugs,
Kelly
Haha, I love the "weird" declaration. I might have to agree! Love the cute photo of your student.
BIG grins. The biggest grin is that she's reading Shakespeare!
