Sunday Morning Poetry

next door

Dawn

I love the dawn,
But that doesn’t mean anything-
Those are just words in a language
We’ve been weaned on;
And if Dawn is real,
Then she is girl,
And too beautiful to belong
In my language of dawn,
Though I am still in love with her:
Dawn, but that is meaningless, if
It means anything
Then Dawn is real, a creature of my
Language, we sing a similar song,
But she’s too busy to just belong
In my words attuned and worshipful
In the language of dawn;
And still I see her caroling on the street,
As the world quiets, she skates
Sweating beneath the cypress and palms
My imagination decorates,
Tinseled and tawn,
Young and gone goes sweet,
Sweet unobtainable
Dawn.
by Robert Rorabeck

I took this from my back deck two mornings ago. Isn't the dawn lovely?

She is particularly
beautiful this
late Autumn when I
throw open the door to
her and meet her at
the edge of the woods.
Love this:)

What I love best about this poem is how he skillfully chases an idea with language, and captures just enough of the idea to make it tangible, but then still gives us a feeling that it's elusive - like light, like dawn. It's beautifully written.

In my language of dawn... Oh, I love this! Dawn & Sunset...both girls, and both beguiling. ;o) Happy Day, Relyn! ((BIG HUGS))

The dawn is beautiful in your photo and in the poem celebrating the dawn. There are just some mornings that I just stand at the window and enjoy the sun coming up and rejoice in the beauty of the early morning.

Oh WOW!!! I wish I could wake up at your house tomorrow....what a stunning view! The colour of that sky is so perfect.

This reminds me of my mom...Her name is Dawne....her father named her so because he thought it was the most beautiful moment of the day.
